God’s word clearly confirms this to us.

As Christians, we are often challenged by those around us – “if God is so loving and caring, why does he allow so much suffering and death to happen”?

Whenever major international disasters and tragedies strike our world (the Middle East crises, Russia/Ukraine war, increased natural disasters occurring but to name a few), this is when people (even Christians) ask the question above. Most Christians cannot answer this question when asked by non-believers. Often an answer will be something like this “Well, in the wisdom of God, we don’t know why these things happen, but when we reach heaven, all will be revealed to us”. This, of course, is a non-answer that does nothing to draw the questioner closer to God, when they don’t believe in God in the first place.

I certainly don’t have a definitive answer to this question, but what I do know, through biblical teaching that I have received, and through the study of God’s word, is that God does care for us. We have to go back to the book of Genesis. As Christians, we have to accept Genesis as real history, the true and perfect word of God. When the world was created by God, the world was a perfect, very good world, with no sin, sickness, suffering or death. Adam’s relationship with God was perfect. God has created us all with free will, to make our own choices, and Adam chose to rebel against God through the lies he accepted from Satan. Once he and Eve ate from the tree that God forbade them to eat of, sin came into the world and that is where the world that we live in today, commenced – broken, fallen and cursed.

Ultimately, no-one is reconciled with why bad things happen to them. God’s word in Matthew Ch.5 vs.45 tells us that “the rain falls on the just and the unjust” – that bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. This verse shows us that God’s love and blessings are impartial to all of his creation. Death and suffering that surrounds us, serves as a reminder that something is wrong with this creation that we live in.

Because of the historical events in Genesis, the whole of creation was cursed (Romans Ch.8 vs.20). Every human is born a sinner. In the book of Romans, the apostle Paul preached that “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” (Romans Ch.3 vs.23). He also makes it plain in Romans Ch.8, that this entire creation is groaning under the effects of this curse and will be like this until it is liberated from it’s “bondage and decay” (Romans Ch.8 vs.21). All things will then be restored through the lifting of the Genesis curse (Acts Ch.3 vs.21 & Revelation Ch.22 vs.3). This means that both Christians and non-believers are affected by the Genesis curse, that mankind brought upon itself in the beginning. Laying the correct foundation for thinking, will help people see that ultimately, God is love, and he has done something about death, pain and suffering – he sent Jesus! Romans Ch.6 vs.23 tells us that “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”.

God, in all of his infinite power and glory, could end all pain and suffering in this world in the blink of an eye, but this is not how he works. He is not a controlling father. He wants all of humanity to come to him and accept his free gift of salvation through their own free will. God does love and care for us, and is with us through all that we go through in this life, good and bad!

CMA MATTERS

The 2026 CMA National Run planning, continues by the faithful committee members.
